Antimicrobial resistance is an increasingly pressing global concern. This course offers unique and comprehensive insights into the challenges posed by AMR, exploring its mechanisms, implications for public health and laboratory methods as well as tools for identification. Participants gain learning experience on how bacteria become resistant and which mechanisms lead to the outcome of resistance. As part of the course, you will also receive demonstration and training in methods for antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) and detection of specific resistance in the microbiological laboratories. Additionally, it will take you through various techniques employed including culture-based methods such as agar dilution and disk diffusion assays which determine the susceptibility of bacteria to antibiotics. Molecular methods such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and whole genome sequencing are also outlined in detail equipping you with basic understanding. These methods provide valuable insights into the prevalence and mechanisms of AMR, aiding in the development of effective treatment strategies and surveillance programs. In our new version an additional module including detection of specific resistance mechanisms has been incorporated.

The whole system, as how it was structured to give the most compact as well as elaborated explanation with the theory and practical methodologies assembled is one place, has been great effort from each and every person involved in it. Excellent classes. If you have some background in Biology, Medicine and correlate areas, they should be of fairly easy understanding. The structure of the course is quite didactical and the explanations on the methods are clear and up to date. The insights on the genomic tools were quite useful! The new module about specific resistances is really good and shall help Biomedical Scientists and lab analysts about using the right methods, performing them properly and keeping vigilance upon new resistant strains arising. Overall a great course for all those interested on this dynamic area.
The design of the course is just excellent I repeat just excellent ! I , born 1937, could after some confusing as well as puzzling (?) times ,not to forget some language-based problems, catch and hold an overall good understanding about the "tiny ones" ruling our lives. Well must say my hobby is microscopy so I have seen quite a few of them as well as in the 1960. been DD-testing bacteriostatic/bacteriocidal ointments

This course is quite interesting for people interested on microbiological field and research because show general concepts, different techniques and tools which are used on laboratory to identify, monitor how these resistance on microorganism take an important part on public health discussion. I recommended to refresh any knowleadge that have on microbiology field.
lectures are too long, it lacks clinical correlation.
the course focus only technical lab issues, when you look for antimicrobial resistance course, the last thing that you need is tech theory. Of course that some concepts are needed in order to provide fundamental basis, but the main goal is and always will be how to interpret antibiograms and infere the most probable mechanism of resistance. So there is a need for clinical correlation. If its not present, the course should be entitled "Laboratory methods for antimicrobial resistance"
The course is really interesting and I found it really useful. However, there are lots of repetitive lectures and I think they could be grouped and summarized or even expanded for topics avoiding the repetitions.

Thanks to DTU National Food Institute for providing this course. I decided to enroll in this course as a part of my research on Antimicrobial Resistance, to improve my theoretical knowledge.
the course content was practical and updated to address all a researcher need to know when wants to step into the antimicrobial-resistant topic.
The abuse and misuse of antibiotics and other antimicrobial drugs in the world favor the development and spreading of resistant microorganisms. My dissertation was endowed on the Prevalence and Antibiotic Susceptibility of Listeria Monocytogenes Isolated from Retail Meat Products in my country.
I believe we need to:
a) Strengthen current systems for tracking and monitoring antibiotic resistance
b) Ensure access to quality-assured essential drugs, and promote the rational use of antibiotics in both humans and animals
c) Improve the prevention and control of infections
This is an excellent overview of the standard techniques and best practices for assessing antimicrobial resistance. Even in the era of molecular-based testing, these techniques remain the bread and butter for most laboratory facilities globally and should be "mastered," including their advantages and disadvantages, before pursuing the state-of-the-art modalities. Unfortunately, the technical details of this course will preclude meaningful absorption by casual learners, and it is recommended that those with college-level microbiology knowledge, at the very least, take this offering for introduction or review purposes.
