Prior experience with AWS is not strictly required for the AWS Cloud for Data and Database Migration course; however, having a basic understanding of AWS services will make it easier to grasp the concepts.
In this course, you will learn about AWS database services like RDS, DynamoDB, and Redshift, as well as how to choose the right solution. Learners will explore AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) for seamless migrations and use the AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT). The course covers strategies for homogeneous and heterogeneous migrations. They will also learn about data migration tools like Storage Gateway, Snowball, and Direct Connect. Finally, they will understand how to design scalable, cost-efficient data migration architectures.
This course is designed to span approximately five weeks, with each week consisting of about 2-3 hours of learning. Throughout the course, learners will engage with a variety of educational resources, including video content on AWS data and database migration, reading materials to enhance understanding, graded quizzes to assess comprehension, and thought-provoking discussion prompts to encourage collaborative learning and critical thinking.
A basic understanding of cloud computing, databases, and networking is recommended. Familiarity with SQL and general IT concepts will help, but the course is structured to support both beginners and professionals.
The course covers AWS’s most relevant migration tools and services, including:
- AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) for migrating relational and NoSQL databases.
- AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) for schema transformations.
- AWS Application Migration Service (MGN) for lift-and-shift server migrations.
- Amazon S3, RDS, and Aurora as target services for migrated data.
- Supporting services like CloudWatch, IAM, and AWS CLI for monitoring and access control.
Completing this course builds in-demand skills in data migration, cloud databases, and AWS infrastructure management. These skills are highly valuable for roles like Cloud Engineer, Data Engineer, Database Administrator, and Solutions Architect, strengthening your profile for cloud-related opportunities.
